Is Non-Computer Devices a good name?

We’ve been racking our brains over there trying to think of a name for all video-capable or internet-capable devices besides personal computers.  For instance, using the term mobile or portable devices would rule out gaming consoles like the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, etc.  Anyway, after too much thought, we’ve decided to go with Non-Computer Devices.  If you think that name sucks, or have a better one, please leave us comments.

Why all this fuss about a name?  Because we have dedicated ourselves to writing a guide that will help you browse our website and watch videos on virtually any non-computer device that is capable of video-playback. Here it is.

Please let us know if we’re wasting our time or if you think that it’s pretty cool. Thanks!

How about just something simple like “streams for all” or “uni-stream” or something like that for the name of this technology. And calling the “non-computer devices” just “video-capable devices” or something else.

Anon, that would work except computers are capable of video too, and we are trying to target all devices besides that :) Anyway, what do you think of the guide so far?

I couldn’t come up with anything better, I’ll ask a friend, and technically, a PS3, XBOX 360 and Wii really are computers under the hood. The iPhone has OSX on it, and some of the Palms have Palm OS on there, those could technically be called mini-computers as well.
    The guides are straightforward.

I think “video-capable devices” is best. I’m pretty sure that makes everyone think of iPods, PSPs, Xboxes, etc. excluding actual computers.

You’re worrying about it too much ;)

I agree with Si on this. “Non-computer devices,” made me pause when I saw the shortened RSS feed title. I can only imagine it’d do the same seen anywhere else. Technically, anything that employs an operating system, has programmable microchips, etc., is a computer. So the first thing that popped in my head seeing that title was something biological or something not electrical…LOL!

“Video-capable devices,” is a great title as it makes me first think of everything other than your standard desktop or laptop computer. There’s no confusion in it at all.

Don’t sweat the small stuff too much, or you overthink the problem and give it a bigger hill to stand on than needed.

How about just stating that replay could be performed on virtually any media device.

Hey guys this is a pretty cool idea. Have you considered a right up for the original Xbox for people running Xbox Media Center. Maybe even get an official plug in going? That thing plays damn near everything. One thing though, there’s not a lot of content, that I’m aware of, that’s downloadable and that hinders a lot of these devices.
